إن ما تباهي به إسرائيل وتسوق به نفسها المتوحشة أنها النظام الديمقراطي الوحيد في وسط متلاطم من الديكتاتوريات العربية فإن لم تشيع العواصم العربية الحريات العامة وتحترم الرأي الآخر وتقتدي بالشفافية والتداول السلمي للسلطة والعدالة الاجتماعية وتتقيد بالالتزام الأخلاقي الراسخ فأبشروا بعصور متتالية من العسر والفقر والهزيمة والانكسار ولثم أحذية الاستعمار القديم والجديد.

All Arab elites in television channels, newspapers, and social media are both impressed and astonished by the young man Zohran Mamdani — the Ugandan-born, Indian-origin, Muslim activist known for his prominent call for social justice and his push for a new program that has shaken the foundations of capitalist orthodoxy in one of the world’s largest cities, New York. Everyone is stunned by the young man who stated, right in the heart of the White House, that America gives billions to Israel, which the right-wing uses to annihilate the Palestinian people. Who would have dared to say that? And who would have expected it?
Yet these elites have never spoken about the vibrant forces and the open democratic system that was capable of producing someone like Zohran.
Israel boasts, and markets itself aggressively, as the only democracy in a turbulent sea of Arab dictatorships. But unless Arab capitals promote public freedoms, respect opposing views, uphold transparency, embrace peaceful transfer of power, commit to social justice, and adhere to firm ethical principles, then expect long eras of hardship, poverty, defeat, and humiliation — and the continued kneeling before the old and new forms of colonial domination.
