*“Come, my venerable master, give me your hand so that I may kiss it!”*
People in the Sultanate of Oman asked the eminent scholar and jurist, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Khalili, the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate, what a Muslim should do if his land is occupied, his family is exterminated, his wealth is extorted, and he is deprived of his faith and religious law.
The man responded with a fatwa that Muslim scholars have repeated throughout the ages, from the time of the Saqifah to this day: “Fight them with your wealth and your lives, and you will attain one of the two best outcomes: either victory or martyrdom.”
Despite its simplicity and clarity—and despite the fact that virtually any Muslim student at an elementary level could issue such a ruling—the staunch Zionists and their Arab agents who have embraced Zionism went into an uproar. The Israeli media and the far-right called for the man’s blood to be shed, accusing him of terrorism. Their agents in the region, meanwhile, demanded that his blood be shed on charges of extremism.
The alternative religious ruling offered by the scholars of corruption was: Do not fight them; normalize relations with them, forget your wounds, and kiss the feet of your killers.
The witness said: Arabs once lived with both modesty and life itself. Then came an era in which they lived with modesty alone. They gradually descended another step and lived with life alone. By the time they reached the present day, they were living among people with neither modesty nor life.
And finally, prayer, appeal, advice, and language themselves have died. So, one wonders: can such appeals possibly reach a dead nation?
God Almighty says:
“Indeed, you cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away. And you cannot guide the blind out of their error. You can only make those hear who believe in Our revelations, and thus submit.”
(Qur’an 30:52–53)
